Misconceptions of a Couponer: Couponers Can’t Enjoy Luxuries

Couponers can’t enjoy the luxuries of life!

I have been told that because I am a couponer, I don’t let myself enjoy other finer things in life. I have to have a coupon for everything is what I hear from so many. This ladies and gentlemen is not true. While I do enjoy getting and using coupons for almost everything, I do enjoy luxuries too.

For instance, my kids come before coupons. This doesn’t mean that I will spend a fortune on junk foods or other items. This simply means that when my kids want to do an activity such as, soccer, gymnastics, movies, etc. We sign up and get going.

We recently finished swimming lessons for two weeks and we will be starting soccer very soon. They are excited and I am even more excited about watching my four year old play in his first soccer game and my six year old advance to the next level.

Other luxuries include:
Hair cuts by a professional – This is a luxury because I can’t cut hair! I want to get my done by a professional and so do my kids and husband. They run when I try to use scissors for more than couponing! I can’t blame them! Trust me we have tried the home styling process and it was not a good experience for us.

Movies at a theater – While we enjoy eating popcorn and seeing movies at home once in a while, we like to get out and enjoy the big screen. Movies are not cheap! If you want to see something in 3D, Wow the price jumps. We have a Regal Cinemas and The Grand Theater that allows us to gain reward points for discounts and cheap concessions stands along with using Fandango.com to get discounts on occasion. There are times though that we get a whim and head out before grabbing these discounts. Spur of the moment is always fun.
*Also, our local Credit Union had discounts on tickets so when I am passing by I stop in to get a few! (I know… I couldn’t go without mentioning this discount! )

Date Night – My husband and I have always been told to never let date night go away. We try to have a date night every week. These are not always the cheapest evenings as with any eating out adventure. We like to enjoy ourselves and enjoy our time together so we will go to a movie and out to eat for the evening.

Vacations – One of my husband’s wishes when we are on vacation is to leave the coupon clipping at home. That is not to say, that I won’t stash a few in my purse for items I might need, get discounts from Restaurant.com or find the best rate on a hotel before heading off. This means that I leave the clipping and strategizing for when I get back.

All of these and other luxuries my family can enjoy because we do coupon. I can save money and use it where we need to or want to. I don’t feel strapped down because I own a couponing site or because I coupon. I do what is best for my family and what we want to live by. This is different for everyone and can change from week to week!

What are some luxuries that you can enjoy because you save money by couponing?

Misconceptions of A Couponer: Couponers Are Trying To Get Something For Nothing

This one is a strong one, “Couponers are trying to get something for nothing”.  All I can say to this is, “You Betcha!!!!”

Couponers are in a class of their own. Don’t be mistaken, this is a class you want to be in and learn as much as you can from. They look for the best deals and if it is free, cheap, or can save them money then, they get as many as they can because, they know what the future brings,

1. Hungry kids/teenagers wanting to know if they can eat again an hour after supper!
2. Spouse’s get home late from work and aren’t in the mood for what was cooked earlier.
3. Sick friends or family members that need a helping hand with their next meal or essentials.
4. Dogs and Cats that spill most of their food to then pour the water bowl over it and soak it down to mush.
5. The neighbor’s child that walks in your the door wanting your food/drinks because well… they are at your house.
6. A boss that wants a good deal on coffee or office essentials.
7. And worse case, a tragedy comes to you or a family member that wasn’t expected.

All of these are reasons that a couponer can and wants to go into a store to get the best deals. Yes, they are all out to get something for nothing and if they weren’t then coupons wouldn’t exist.

Love The Couponer, Even the Extreme!

Misconceptions of A Couponer: Part 1

One the funniest misconceptions of a couponer is that couponers are all women. This couldn’t be farther from the truth because I know several men who are great couponers and they can go into any store and save the same amount as a women by using coupons.

As a matter of fact, there are several men who actively participate in our Humpday Giveaways and engage in conversations on our Facebook fan page and many other sections of SmartShoppingLadies.com.

Now, if I could only get my husband to join the couponing men crowd. I could send him to the grocery store to help me tag team the isles! However, I shouldn’t complain because he looks after the kids and that is a enough in itself.

We are two women that started this site and that is why we decided to call it Smart Shopping Ladies. It is a growing community of frugal shoppers that consist of men and women.  We and the fans love the idea of saving money for our families and helping others become better economist through couponing.

Thank you men and women for helping Smart Shopping Ladies grow!
